I applied for my permanent residency over one year ago...my husband and I were married 6 months ago and thinking the residency wouldn't take much longer from what i had heard, I made the decision to move- and use the first few months to get settled and could see not working as a bonus. I sold my business that I had worked very hard to build up, I packed up and moved from NC to Ontario, Canada. I have been adjusting to being married, living with my husband and his son and not working- which I am not used to at all. Its also very difficult not to have my own income as I am adjusting to a new country, living and sharing everything. Recently I have really hit a wall with the "limbo" and waiting period for the visa to go through. I am ready to start work and create my professional life again. I have been feeling resentful of my husband having "everything" with me being here and not having to start over like I have. I know it was my choice- but its still hard and its taking a toll on our relationship because it makes me cranky and irritable at times. Any advice or tips would help a lot! So far, I am in zumba, yoga, pottery, made a friend too- but its not enough. I find myself feeling I gave up everything and can't get going here yet! I am nit picking my husband because I am telling myself if he were just more perfect- I wouldn't be feeling like this! I know how irrational that is too! Any tips would be appreciated!!

I can understand your frustration as I have also been in this situation a couple of times. Unfortunately there is little we can do to speed up the immigration process. It sounds like you have been doing well so far keeping yourself occupied. It also sounds as though you had your own business before you moved, if this is the case then I do have one suggestion and that is to start networking. You may not be allowed to work but you are allowed to network. Start finding networking groups and researching your market. This will help in two ways. 1. You will meet likeminded people. 2. You will be more prepared when your visa is complete to get started as soon as possible. I have met people who are in a similar position here in Australia who have started networking and building contacts ready for when they can work. Kama

NC to Canada - Hi, unfortunately I am only qualified/registered to advise you on Australian migration law. I do have a colleague who has moved from Australia to British Columbia, Canada who may be able to help you if that is what you need.

I can tell you though, if your situation was in Australia you may be able to apply for work rights whilst you are waiting for your PR to come through - you might like to enquire if this is an option for you in Canada. (Canadian and Australian migration law is very similar)

Hope this helps, hang in there and take Karma's advice :-)

It can be very frustrating, especially if you need the money. I know people who have been sent out of the country to do the waiting, but I guess that depends on the country. The best way to kill the time is enhance and expand your professional stills by studying and taking professional courses.

It can be very frustrating indeed. I agree it does help to spend time enhancing skills :) Of course money is a huge factor and I am not sure how to get around that one.

I took the test and I took the test and got my mark, the questions were eesiar than the material I used to study. It was a good test because, as Yakovich, I learned things about Australia, even if they didn't appeared in the test. Now I am a happy Australian citizen, paying tax and enjoying this country.
